for one, Lost is one of the most 'different' shows on tv.

it does not necessarily appeal to the same audience who are used to watching Ugly Betty, Greys Anatomy, or The Office..and that's been established from the very start...

coupled with the fact that there's been unusual delays in season/episode/story progression from the very start (which caused a lot of regulars to stop watching also), and the veryyyyyyyyy apparent potential that the show is most likely going to stop again mid-season due to the writers strike...well...not very a good chance once again

if anything, i REALLY HOPE the makers have thought this over and over and over...and see it as a good opportunity to boost their rankings and hopefully take advantage of it and dont throw it away
as "different" as you think it is, lost has extreme mass appeal. it's not exactly "my kind" of show, but i love it; and i know that's the case with plenty of other people (and yes, even those who like ugly betty, grey's anatomy or, like myself, the office). there's not many people i know who've seen say, the first 4 or 5 episodes chronologically and haven't been hooked.

what do you mean by "unusual delays in season/episode/story progression"? the breaks between episodes are pretty much fixed by renting the DVDs (which is how i initially got into the show -- rented the first two seasons). lost is VERY easy show to get into when you can watch episodes back-to-back-to-back-to-back. of course there's breaks in story progression -- drawing out a plot is pretty much fundamental in every show.

and honestly? i'm hoping the makers DON'T use this to boost their rankings... because one of the easiest ways to do this would be to have more "stand alone" episodes, rather than ones that encourage plot progression. that way, people would feel a bit more comfortable to jump in and, if they like it, they can go back and get the DVDs.

shrug.
