Well to be honest, out of those 70% there are probably "Christian by birth/label" and not the God-fearing, practicing Christians that most of us are led to believe. A vocal group of U.S. Christians are worried about losing their Christian heritage to secular forces and science, and possibly "competition" from other faiths*. Another example is the whole evolution/creationism issue being taught in school where some Christians are afraid their children might have conflicting issues with science and religion.
*In a private survey conducted in 2001, 76.7% of American adults identified themselves as Christian, down from 86.4% in 1990.
