There is actually a great
made-for-tv series done arouns 2000-2003 by the Sci-Fi Channel which is far better than the movie from the 80's - more faithful to the story for a start and the special effects are much much better. I really enjoyed watching it ("Dune" itself is 3 episodes with "Dune Messiah" being one and "Children of Dune" 2 episodes)
I am now reading "Children of Dune" after finishing the original and Dune Messiah these last few days. I am not too much in to sci-fi books - I prefer fantasy - but his writing is awesome and seems to just happen to be in the future, rather than being all about spaceships/aliens/scary weapons etc.
Agreed on the worms - although I am curious as to what the Fremen dagger looks like being that it is taken a tooth of Shai-Hulud!
