I run 3 times a week and do the elliptical plus some weights for 2 or 3 days and take one rest day. I don't run on consecutive days though.
If you haven't run a race before, find one around you and sign up. There are usually a bunch of 5 and 10ks around. I've run a few and it's nice just to get an idea of how things work.

Because it blocks a lot of the other distracting stimuli for me and keeps me focused on proper breathing and posture.
Ah well, yeah InshaAllah I'll sign up for one in the Spring. It's too cold to run outside right now. How much are you running on every consecutive day?
