When I wrote him a polite letter disagreeing with his actions, suggesting that he should keep in mind that he represents ALL people in his constituency, he wrote me back the following letter (over FOUR MONTHS later...):
Thank you for your letter regarding my decision to not participate in the Muslim prayer in the Senate Chamber.
My first act as a member of the Texas Senate was to permanently place the creed, "In God We Trust" over the Senate Chamber and above the Lieutenant Governor's podium. This is intended to remind all of my fellow Senators that all governments are built upon God's shoulders and our actions should reflect our state's Judeo Christian values. With this creed in mind, I could not participate in a prayer to a god other than the one true God.
Although our nation does not discriminate against other faiths or cultures, and our diversity has made our nation great, variety cannot supplant the importance of our Christian heritage. Thanks again for your letter and please feel free to contact this office in the future regarding this or any issue.

I followed this when it happened. I am not surprised but still even the letter is very mean.
At the end he says MAY GOD BLESS?! My question is who? Why there is no 'you' at the end? Is this like a bumpersticker God bless US? Does he mean God Bless christians only? I might be wrong but to the missing 'you' seems intentional. If he hadn't mean to mention GOD he could just have said smth like sincerely, yours, etc.
