In recent years specially after the september 11 attacks, it seems to me that the interest in wahabhism has declined in the muslim community. I remember in the late 90's every one wanted to be a wahabhi and they would call themselves wahabhis. I guess people learn with time.
First of all, refer to them as 'Salafis', not 'Wahhabis' as the latter has negative connotations. Second of all, I think the decline is more apparent in places like U.S. and U.K., but in other places the Salafi dawah is still very much alive. The "decline" is not only due to the aftermath of Sept. 11 attacks, but also internal dissension that took place in the late 90s/early 21st century that was mostly orchestrated by the SPUBS. The moderate Salafis are still strong in certain areas in the U.S. and U.K. and there are signs of a revival going on.
