Re: Eid Customs - So, what do you do/are you doing for Eid this year?
My husband and I got up and headed out to the mosque, which is almost walking distance from our house--nice! Usually Eid prayer is waaaaay downtown during rush hour, but lately they've started having it at the local mosque too, thank God. My husband is from Syria, and has no family here. My family is far away, and more to the point, not Muslim, so it was just us two for Eid. Before I met met my husband, I used to spend Eid alone, and same for him! We went to the mosque a little late, and I sat outside with the overflow and ended up talking to the mom and daughter on either side of me... turns out they are from the same city as my husband. I was extra friendly that day, unlike most Eid prayers I've gone to, and I did that thing that I HATE and know is not allowed--I talked during the khutba. BUT, by the time it was over with, I was invited to a wedding! Husband and I met up in the parking lot and asked a passing brother to take a picture of us together to send to his folks. After that, we headed out to IHOP. Everyone there was in shorts or sweatpants. (I LOVE America!) We then went home and chilled out for the rest of the weekend. And ate.
