Eid Customs - So, what do you do/are you doing for Eid this year?
So, what are you all doing for Eid this year? How's it going in your city? What do you usually do? Let's discuss all the various ways Eid is celebrated in various communties and cultures.
For me, it was getting up a bit later than usual, getting into the appointed Eid clothes for the day, going to the masjid in time for the sermon after the first jamat, but in time for the second jamat. Keeping kids quiet a stray chore at the masjid here or there to help out. Joining in on the informal chant of praise for God and the Prophet (pbuh) while sitting inside and waiting for the second jamat to start (they had it up on a big poster on the wall, so i could follow along). Eid hugs afterward and throughout, seeing just about everyone I know at that place in the span of 5-10 minutes, and then out. (While keeping some kids with plastic toy swords from stabbing at the other kids riding the little rented train-ride that was going around the parking lot.)
Now, it's my grandmas for a bit of food and pictures (since everybody's all dressed up) and some video games snuck in against my little cousins and visiting brother-in-law. Then house jumping. My mom explained how we're all booked up today in two hour blocks. A get-together at one group of family-friends houses from noon till 2, another from 2-4, another from 4-6 and then our house with guests coming over from 7 till night. Reminds me I got rush home and do some last second cleaning.
Eidi (traditionally Pakistani money gift from elder to younger people) dispersal throughout the day.
