As-Salam Alaykum.
Bismillah.
It was not really an alter-ego, in the sense that I didn't create a new user name. I was still using this user name.
Back then, I was a bit extreme in my viewpoints, and was known as a 'fundamentalist'. So one day I posted that I was actually a Jew named Alfred working for a think tank organization like RAND. I said I was doing an undercover report on the Muslim youth, especially focusing on extremism.
The thing that made it funny was that everyone believed it, including even those whom I used to talk to every day on AOL instant messenger. Many people would message me asking me not to include their names in my report, etc. And people were very scared after that.
I was subsequently banned by Azhar, the first of many such bannings.
But people believed the Alfred story for a whole week, until I finally came out and told everyone it was just a joke. In the words of one Islamican, it struck at the very foundation of Islamica.
Again, the thing that really made it great was that
everyone believed it.
Fi Aman Allah.
