Re: Dubai - its wonders and limitations
Woo-hoo, Dubai is home to a bunch of superlatives. They have the first, biggest, most expensive everything. I still don't see what the hype is about.
When I go overseas, I ditch the malls and the American franchises, and eat me some yummy shawarmas from the street corner of the souq and hit up the oldest parts of the city. Mountains, beaches, old palaces....not fake islands and new buildings. I think it's hilarious when my cousins overseas drag me to the KFC or Baskin Robbins in Yemen when I live in the land of fast food and chains. I go overseas to experience culture and old, natural beauty, and the UAE is losing all that.
There are sooo many countries I'd rather go to before I went to the UAE, even though I have a bunch of aunts and uncles there.

Umar ibn Khattab (ra): I tucked up (my garment) and did my best (to avoid thorns).
Ubay ibn Kaab (ra): That is taqwa.
