I just know we never opened our fast with anything cooked.

Would be nice to see some daleel.

Try to stick with the Sunnah though of doing it with a date. There's also some scientific evidence I believe to back up the benefits of doing it with a date.
finally, i dont sound like a psyco
im sticking with the dates fa sho,
it's just that i saw a friend try to open her fast with a sambusa last week
i made her eat a date first

Someone could verify this better, but from what I learned, after a long day of fasting, one's sugar level goes down. So before attacking the body with heavy food, one should attempt to raise the sugar level by eating dates.

yeah i heard something like that too
plus, dates are healthy!

Allah swt knows best.

When Sulayman ibn AbdulMalik visited Makkah, he asked if there was anyone present who has met the companions of RasulAllah (saw).
“Abu Hazim,” they replied.
“Why is it that we dislike death? Why is it we don't want to die?” Sulayman asked.
Abu Hazim replied, “Because you have built and established this world and you have destroyed your Aakhirah, so you hate to go from what you have established to what you have destroyed.”
