It was a miniseries made in 1990 (thats 18 years ago folks) its not going to hold up to todays amazing special effects, but I'd have to say it was faithful to the book in creepiness. The book was much longer and more enjoyable

Low budget flounders? Nothing I can think of that I feel that way about.
