But... yes, I think it's a very slippery slope. I'm not comfortable with saying the Prophet SAW has authority over the moon or rain or anything else that only Allah has authority over and I think saying things like that, even if not meant to be taken literally, can lead to bad, bad things like...the dreaded S-word.

i completely agree. of course that is true. but that doesnt mean that in every sentence i have to say "because of Allah he had this. because of Allah he did this....". if people misinterpret your lines of poetry, its their problem, not yours.
qasida burda - "discard what the christians claim about their nabi, then decide and say what you wish in praise of him (saw). and
attribute towards his personality whatever you wish of excellence.

imam abu hanifa (ra) - "whenever i listen, i hear only your remembrance, and when i look,
i am able to see nothing besides you" - qasida numaan.
hmm, sounds dodgy? shouldnt imam abu hanifa only hear Allah's remembrance?? how can he only see the Prophet (saw)??? i guess its down to intpretation
just because people may misinterpret it, doesnt mean you shouldnt write it. of course, everything the Prophet (saw) has is because of Allah. which dumbo deosnt belive that.
