In any case, it def doesn't make agriculture some kind of secondarily important thing, it never was... like I said, it's a foundation of human civilization and has sustained it for many thousands of years.

You could say for sure that there are some greedy people involved in any enterprise, even 1400 years ago. Artisans, blacksmiths, silk producers etc.
