and i think they take into account whether your siblings have been to uni before you or not. if they havent then u can get into uni through some scheme i cant remember - they lower the grades for you.
I think that they also take into account your immediate family who have gone into university education, so if you've had an uncle or an aunt who have got a degree, chances are they won't lower the grade.
