I'm in elementary education myself..
afra, I totally think you should start off at an inner-city school, especially if that's what your passionate about. honestly? kids are kids and you're going to deal with the SAME type of situations at both inner city and more privileged schools. the only thing is that you have to put more effort into connecting with your students and showing that you really do care, with inner city school kids.
the only problem with inner city schools is that you're lacking in resources compared to privileged schools. however, inner city schools get grants and funding from the govt and that helps a lot. also, a lot of times, inner city school salaries ARE higher because they need to draw more teachers in.
also, you tend to have less of a support system from your principal and those higher up, from what I've been told.
and as far as it looking bad on your resume? it's the opposite, from what teachers have told me. it's commendable to have worked at an inner city school and it really does prepare you for all types of situations.
