Yes we are the best of nations. The nation of Muhammad(SAW) is the best of nations. Even if the followers of Muhammad(SAW) arent as good as before we are still the best of nations. Why? Because Allah(SWT) says so in his book. No, we arent as numerous nor are we the most advanced, but when was that ever a criterea for being the best?
You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient. 3:110
This is why we are the best nation. Allah(SWT)'s words are not only for one specific time and place. We are included just as much as those that lived during the time of the Prophet. This includes us because we are Muslims. We enjoin the good, forbid the evil, and believe in Allah(SWT). By saying otherwise you are in effect disagreeing with Allah(SWT).
