Lots of Egyptian art and artifacts were defaced by wackjob coptic groups during the centuries when Egypt was a christian country, and they went down in history as defacers of some of the world's great cultural relics, just like the Taliban. Muslims then ruled Egypt for over a thousand years without significantly damaging its ancient heritage.
