Yeah, I've been asked illegal questions in interviews as well. Sometimes people are asking conversationally (like to get to know you) and they're not HR people so they aren't really up on all of the illegal questions. Other times (especially for women in high-powered positions) they're asking because they think external factors impact your dedication.
