Agree. But at the same time, they need to justify their rulings. I think if you have more of these studies, it may factor into fatwas given on individual basis. There are times when people overlook politics (involvement of pharmaceutical companies, hiring "ghost writers" for research, misrepresenting data to push their medicine, etc.).
If the argument is about mind toxicity, take something as common as allergy pills, those also have mind altering effects - mood swings, hostility, nightmares...
Anti-depressants can inc. suicidal beh. , and so on.
