The way for a believer is to be the kind of believer the Qur'an commands them to be, not become the Prophet Muhammad or the wives of the Prophet.
The Verse which everyone loves to quote ignorantly is the one where the Prophet Muhammad is refered to as "uswatun hasanatun" or a good example...in the same Surah, the Prophet Ibrahim is also referred to by the same term, which most have no idea about.
The believers do not differentiate between the messengers, but adopt to the religion communicated in the Revelations through these messengers. The Muslims purpose is to adhere to the Qur'anic values, and that is his or her guide. Ofcourse, if one has already decided he doesnt want to view the Qur'an this way will never see the light, but proceed blind without the guidance of Allah.

1. I didn't find that definition of 'religious' from any book, to me it seems common sense.
2. The Quran is a guide, the Prophet is an example of how to act upon that guide.
3. The purpose is not to 'become' the Prophet astagfiruAllah. It is to take his example and use it in our lives. This is also common sense.
4. I do not have the knowledge to take this any furthur, and I'm not going to pretend that I do.
May Allah guide us all correctly towards His love and mercy.
