Default Re: Al-Qaeda Chief Slams Muslims for Lack of Support

Well they used to be viewed quite favourably. One article I read cited the incident that marked the turning point for the 'Awakening' movement amongst Iraqi Sunnis. It began with Al Quaeda in Iraq members dragging an elderly Christian man to their vehicles... his wife hanging on to his legs for all she was worth. Chuckling, they kicked her off and left her laying in the dust with her skirt over her head, and her husband was never seen again.

The onlookers gathered, and decided to kill the men who did that. There was retaliation and counter-retaliation until there was an organized movement against Al Quaeda elements.
