You don't have to totally eliminate carbs from your diet either... just make sure that a far greater portion is coming from veggies and fruits.

If you keep half your plate full of veggies, then the remaining quarter should be complex carbs, and the other quarter protein (chicken breast or something).

That's a real loose rule of thumb, but it's seemed to work for me, and I'm really prone to taking carb dives.
