Anyway, in regards to wrestling, I appreciate the science behind it & effectiveness of it as a combat sport, but it just never interested me much. The wrestling of the Prophet (SAW)'s time was totally different - they stood and tried to throw each other to the ground (which had practical application on the battlefield).
You can't deny that modern combat wrestling looks uber-gay (though I know when you're fighting someone, such concerns are probably the last thing on your mind)..

It is important for us to understand that in these trying times it is not the norm to have access to a weapon to finish a vermin off after he attacks you. That being the case, throwing somebody to the ground is only winning half the battle; to subdue a foe it is a must to have experience in submission grappling so as to be able to control that person once you have him on the ground. That means anything from chokes, locks, or to make it quick just mount the dude so he can't turn you over and finish him off with a fury of punches and elbow.
Of course this is assuming your opponent is an honorable human being who will fight you one-on-one without the assistance of his fellow acquaintances. If the latter is the case it is best to have your own set of acquaintances to even the score. It is best not to fight when outnumbered, but if you have no choice it would be best to follow the example of this dude and rely on striking boxing or muay thai style.

Also if you find grappling around with dudes to be homo-erotic simply join a mixed gender class and tell your instuctor of your fear and I'm sure he will be understanding and allow you to roll with the female students. It's really no big deal
