is anybody a bird expert here? i got a bird last week (a parrotlet) and she still hates my guts. i realize it's going to take time, but she *still* thinks i'm going to reach into her cage and grab her every time i come near. parrotlets are supposed to be people-birds. i know it'll take a while for her to get acclimated, and i'm doing things like letting her out of her cage (technically you're supposed to pick them up and take them out every time, but she flies around so violently when i try to do that that i just let her come out on her own sometimes), but is there anybody here who started with a really mean bird at first (and it changed to be nicer)?
i pick her up (sometimes with gloves; she bites ridiculously hard for a bird that weighs maybe 2 ounces) and try to make it a point to safely put her down in different places to try and get her used to the idea of me toting her around. it's the hands that bother her the most (and i understand that; other parrotlets are the same), but i just dont want her to react so violently (biting, flying into things [her wings are clipped]). so yeah; suggestions are appreciated.
