And I will very likely end up living with my in-laws before too long. I'm worried because we've lived on our own all this time and done my own thing, so I'm not sure how well i'd adjust. But not being able to dress how I want to or sleep in until the afternoon are all things which I don't think you can do anyway if you have kids, so it's not really that big a deal.
This is the way i see it: the man I married owes his character and values to these people, who will also love and dote on my own children in a way that a parent can't. If my own parents had a son, I'd want his wife to take good care of my parents. Plus I consider it a marital responsibility to help and encourage my husband to fulfil his Islamic duty towards his own mother and father. And one day, I'd want our kids to look after us
so they should learn by example, no?
So the least I can do is try and make them happy and comfortable when they need us. I don't imagine it'll be easy, but I don't think going into it riddled with negativity is going to help anyone.
